Encouraging good oral habits
For the past 22 years, the SOHS has been inculcating good oral habits by focusing on 3 key areas which include providing free dental check-ups with samples of toothpaste and toothbrushes to pre-school and primary schools and conducting large scale community based oral health camps.
Signal is also active in sponsoring research and in providing travel grants to Dental Professional Faculty members seeking to further their knowledge. The sponsorship of this event was another step in our mission to further raise oral hygiene standards.
National Oral Health Day
A successful lobbying effort initiated by Unilever Sri Lanka and carried through by the Sri Lanka Dental Association (SLDA) influenced the Ministry of Health to declare 31st October each year as National Oral Health Day.
Good oral hygiene
The key events of the Oral Health Service include community oral health camps (free dental treatments, lectures on oral health and hygiene, sampling of Signal toothpaste, distribution of educational leaflets on oral hygiene etc., sponsorship of the International Dental Congress annually)
Through Signal and the Oral Health Service Campaign, Sri Lanka’s toothpaste penetration level at 90% is more than double that of India, Pakistan & Bangladesh. Besides, Sri Lanka’s per capita consumption of toothpaste which is an indicator of the number of times people brush their teeth, is double that of its neighbouring countries. The dental community will also bear witness to the decline of the incidence of cavities among children. Signal is leading the oral market in Sri Lanka with a 50% market share.
A reason to smile
Signal had been instilling good oral hygiene habits to the people of Sri Lanka giving them the confidence to smile for the past 24 years. It is this smile, with all its warmth and special kind of ‘magic’ that has won us world acclaim as one of the warmest and friendliest nations in the world. Last year Signal launched its newest initiative, Signal Sina Bo Wewa campaign. It’s aim was to spread the warmth and beauty of our Sri Lankan smile to the world and enhance Sri Lanka’s image as the world’s friendliest nation.
A Signal smile truck traveled the length and breadth of the country and photographed more than 100,000 enchanting smiles of our people. With this collection of smiles, Signal entered the Guinness Book of World for the most number of photographs under one theme.
This campaign has been highly commended by the tourism industry representatives where Signal’s ambition to ensure that Sri Lanka is promoted as a warm and hospitable nation.
