Flora Heart Health campaign

Unilever Sri Lanka, through its brand Flora, has partnered with the Sri Lanka Heart Association (SLHA) to launch an awareness programme aimed at promoting heart healthy living.

11th September, 2007, Colombo - Unilever Sri Lanka, through its brand Flora, has partnered with the Sri Lanka Heart Association (SLHA) to launch an awareness programme aimed at promoting heart healthy living.

The programme which concentrates on a preventive lifestyle will kick off with a mega event planned for the upcoming World Heart Day which falls on the 30th of September 2007. Capital Maharaja has joined Unilever and SLHA in this worthy cause by becoming the exclusive media sponsor for the event.

“Teaming up with Sri Lanka heart Association is the first step In Unilever’s mission, through its spread brand Flora, to educate the community on leading a heart healthy lifestyle .”Surith Perera – Unilever’s Marketing Director Foods stated.

The preventive heart health programme initiative undertaken by Unilever through the brand Flora comes in the wake of depressing statistics that illustrated Heart disease as the No.01 cause of death in Sri Lanka. Daily, 10 people die of heart related disease of which at least 7 contract the ailment due to an unhealthy lifestyle.

Saumya Perera, Brand Manager for Flora said “Flora globally champions healthy hearts and helps people feel optimistic about life. It provides a stage for people to make informed choices to get the most out of life and give them the confidence that they have the power to do amazing things because they are heart healthy. “

Dr. Rohan Gunawardene, Coordinator for World Heart Day, SLHA said “Ischemic Heart disease has become the biggest cause of death in Sri Lanka and the numbers are increasing each year. Many of the causes of ischemic heart disease are either preventable or can be controlled.

With this in mind the Sri Lanka Heart Association, with the backing of Flora and MTV, is launching a programme to create public awareness regarding the prevention of heart disease. Under this year’s theme of ‘Team Up for a Healthy Heart’, the campaign will be initiated with a walk for heart health and a heart health life style fair planned for World Heart Day on 30th September 2007.”

The USL, SLHA and Maharaja Heart Health Event which will kick off with a short health walk on World Heart Day will culminate in a Heart Health Lifestyle Fair which will enable participants to interactively learn about ‘how to live a preventive lifestyle’. This will feature all the elements required for a healthy lifestyle and will offer participants free heart health checks, heart health tips and educational sessions by renowned doctors.

The Fair Grounds will host a range of interesting stalls showcasing gym equipment and the proper use of exercise machines, health foods, easy to fix health food recipes and a several activities related to keeping the heart healthy all in a family fun environment.
