Unilever CEO inaugurates new factory in Horana
Unilever Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Polman spent the full day on November 21 with the Unilever Sri Lanka business. During his visit Mr. Polman inaugurated Unilever Sri Lanka’s new manufacturing facility in Horana, reviewed the business and emphasized the commitment of Unilever to Sri Lanka. Paul was on a one day visit to Sri Lanka accompanied by Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Harish Manwani, and Executive Vice President of South Asia, Mr. Nitin Paranjpe.
“I see a very different Sri Lanka today, compared to the one I saw last time, there is really nothing better than seeing peace and prosperity among people. I am also very happy to see the great strides Unilever Sri Lanka has made, and when I look at this new factory, I can see how far we have come over the last 75 years of our presence in Sri Lanka” said Paul, at the inauguration of the new factory.
“However, this is only the beginning,” he added, “I now want to see you compete with the best in the world, when it comes to efficiency, quality and overall excellence.” Mr. Polman also reiterated the importance of being environmentally sustainable and serving the community in the country.
While addressing the employees, Paul stressed on the importance of sustainable growth “More and more our consumers are becoming aware of the challenges facing the world. They may not use words like climate change and sustainability, but even the poorest consumer will be able to tell you that they do not have enough water anymore.
We need to be consumer centric in our approach and design our products and activate our brands so that they address these challenges. Then we will be able to make a huge positive social impact through our brands. Today the brands that are growing fastest in Unilever are the ones that have a clearly defined social mission, like Lifebuoy and Dove”
