Knorr celebrates rich culinary legacy

For 175 years, Knorr has been led by a strong belief that good food matters in adding pleasure and contentment to our lives. This has enabled Knorr to develop an exceptional relationship with mothers all over the world, empowering them to create great tasting meals for their families. As in 87 countries, mothers in Sri Lanka too trust Knorr to help them create tasty family meals.

As one of the world’s largest single food brands touching more than 320 million people every day, Knorr is committed to bringing outstanding culinary expertise to every family table. Knorr’s global outreach that transforms into local expertise allows the brand to understand and cater to the different culinary needs and cultural preferences through specially developed products and recipes.

In Sri Lanka, Knorr has developed local products such as the maldive fish powder mix which enhances uniquely Sri Lankan dishes. Even iconic global products such as the Knorr chicken cubes are manufactured in Sri Lanka to a recipe which suits the Lankan palate.

The Journey of Knorr

Knorr has a rich history that is uniquely flavoured with the brand’s own story. In 1838, C.H Knorr, an enterprising German gentleman, opened the first factory with a goal of simplifying the process of making soup while preserving its taste and nutrition. From soup based products to the iconic chicken cubes, the business expanded first in Europe and then throughout the world.

With Knorr, every mother can benefit from the culinary expertise of both international and local team of professional chefs. As culinary creators and guardians of taste, Knorr Chefs go to extra ordinary lengths to find the best ingredients to develop products and recipes that enable great tasting dishes the family will love.

“As Knorr Chefs, we strive to guarantee good wholesome food made using fresh produce of high quality. We recognises the importance of great tasting meals and we also understand that less time spent cooking results in more time spent with your family,” said Senior Research and Development Manager – South Asia Chef Jatin Sethi.

Today, Knorr teams include 300 professional chefs worldwide, representing over 48 nationalities, creating a rich culinary brand legacy. Knorr’s team of chefs in Colombo comprises of Chef Kapila Jayanetti, Chef Saman Wijeratne and Chef W.A. Chathurika Anuradha who take great pride in sharing their expertise with Sri Lankan consumers who want to create scrumptious dishes for their families every day.

Safety & quality first

Unilever Sri Lanka Director Marketing for Food Ramani Samarasundera says, “Food safety and quality is our foremost priority.

The ingredients used by Unilever Sri Lanka have been extensively tested for safety by the Unilever Safety & Environmental Assurance Centre in the United Kingdom which works in corporation with international food safety organisations such as the World Health Organisation, the Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) and the US Food & Drugs Administration.”

Furthermore she added that the latest technology in Unilever manufacturing as well as at suppliers offers consumers the assurance of quality products without the use of artificial preservatives.

Knorr also takes pride in being close to the consumers through a multitude of touch points. To celebrate 175 years, Knorr will reward loyal users through various promotions and activities held through the year. The unique concept of Knorr ‘Rasa Haula’ facilitates a close relationship with mothers.

Knorr Rasa Haula brings mothers together to experience and benefit from Knorr’s culinary heritage and expertise. Held throughout the country, it has become a very popular concept that empowers women to combine their own recipes with those of Knorr chefs to create delectable dishes, says Unilever Sri Lanka Category Head – Culinary Shamara Perera.

As a global food brand from Unilever, Knorr is committed to working towards a sustainable future. The Knorr commitment to sustainability extends to a goal of ensuring that 100% of all agriculture ingredients are sourced from sustainable sources by 2020.

The brand, through its global expertise, helps farmers adopt sustainable agricultural practices. In line with its 175 anniversary, Knorr has globally announced that it will continue to invest €1 million annually towards the Knorr Sustainability Partnership Fund, which supports farmers and growers working on complex sustainable agriculture projects, thereby reaffirming a commitment towards creating great products using quality ingredients that are sustainably sourced.
